Pick an image format for your task
JPG is widely compatible and often compact for photographs, but it does not preserve transparency. PNG supports transparency and lossless encoding but can be larger. WebP is supported by modern browsers and many apps; compare the result with your target workflow.
Image conversion limits and quality
Browser image conversion is limited to 25 MB and 40 megapixels. HEIC and HEIF conversions upload to the configured server, are limited to 50 MB, and require Sharp support for those formats. Converting an already lossy image cannot restore lost image detail.
